McCoy tests WSB Ducati

This if the first exclusive picture of Garry McCoy in action on his Ducati 999 World Superbike.

The Aussie is at Valencia today and tomorrow to test the V-twin, which he's riding after a disastrous year on Kawasaki's MotoGP ZX-RR. He has replaced Frenchman Regis Laconi on the NCR bike for the coming season.

But his progress is being hampered by a wrist injury, which he sustained in a supermoto crash two weeks ago.

He said: "It's tough to hang on and wind the throttle back, but I needed to get out on the Ducati as soon as I could."

Australian Steve Martin has gone fastest in the WSB test session at Valencia this weekend. The DFX Ducati rider completed 65 laps, with a fastest time of 1:36.454.

Second quickest was Leon Haslam on the Renegade Ducati, completing 140 laps over the course of the test and finishing with a best time of 1:36.817 on the 998 Testastretta he rode last season, as he is waiting for the arrival of the 2004 Ducati 999.

Fastest World Supersport rider was Karl Muggeridge on the Ten Kate Honda, followed by Australians Kevin Curtain and Broc Parkes. Garry McCoy managed a tentative 14 laps despite still suffering an injury from a supermoto crash at the Bologna Show, and the GMT 94 World Endurance team was also testing.

Haga set for WSB return

Noriyuki Haga is set for a World Superbike comeback with the British Renegade Ducati team.

The popular Japanese rider will join Leon Haslam in the squad on Ducati 999 RS04s, after a disappointing three years in MotoGP. His last WSB season was in 2000, when he came close to beating Honda’s Colin Edwards to the title.

This will be Haga’s first time riding a Ducati and his first experience of Pirelli tyres. His WSB successes all came on Dunlop rubber before a move to MotoGP and Michelin.

Renegade Ducati team boss Mark Griffiths said, " We’ve agreed the terms of the contract and we’re pretty close to signing Haga. "

2004 WSB dates announced :D

The 2004 World Superbike calendar has been announced. There will be two British rounds, with Silverstone on June 13 and Brands Hatch on July 25. Plus, there is a Canadian round, which is yet to be confirmed.

The 2004 dates are:

February 29: Valencia, Spain. March 28: Phillip Island, Australia. April 18: Misano, San Marino. May 16: Monza, Italy. May 30: Oschersleben, Germany. June 13: Silverstone, UK. Anthony Rejoins the Racing Goberts :devil:

The oldest, most experienced, and arguably most talented Gobert is coming back to AMA road racing next year, according to a press release from Erion Racing. Anthony Gobert will race a Honda CBR1000RR in the AMA Superstock class alongside his youngest brother Alex (middle brother Aaron is also an AMA road racer).

Now 28 years old, Anthony Gobert has raced, and beaten, some of the greatest riders in the modern era, including at the World Superbike level and AMA Superbike level. His battles with Nicky Hayden a couple of years ago (while riding an underpowered Yamaha R7) were spectacular. Anthony has never taken a big championship since leaving Australia, however, and has had his problems with race team management and sponsors over the years. We wish him the best of luck and hope he can showcase his tremendous talent with the Erion Racing team in 2004
