Noise Objavljeno December 24, 2003 Opozori Objavljeno December 24, 2003 Objava iz advrider foruma: ----- Avtor: KTMax, Amsterdam, the Netherlands 22.12.2003 ------ Comparing test KTM 950, Aprilia Caponord Rally Raid, BMW GS Adventure I just picked up a copy of Promotor with a comparing test of these 3 scoots. Frequently seen in this neck'o the woods. Promotor is a respected Dutch bike mag known for their thorough testing. Two of the three journo's ride GSs of their own. So much for objectivity... In any case the (non S) 950 wipes the floor with the other two in an almost painful way. In just about every aspect. A quick summary: Highway KTM offers the best wind protection. A lot of turbulence on the GS and Capo. KTM is the fastest, both in acceleration and top speed. Performance wise the LC8 is in a league of its own. Capo lags power below 5500 RPM, The GS lags it above that. Capo is the most vibe free. The GS has oil tanker stability and the best seat. KTM the worst seat. Mountain roads / B-roads On these roads first prize goes to the KTM again. The Capo and GS struggle to keep it in sight. When pushed hard(er) the KTM just rides away. The GS is too heavy and bulky to keep up although the chassis itself is good enough. The Capo suffers from vague-ness from the soft'n spongy suspension and the engine needs to be rev'd constantly to ride around the lack of low end ooomph. With panniers the Capo and GS deck out too soon on the twisty stuff (good pictures though!). The brakes of all three are good. Different but roughly equally effective. BMW grabs points with its ABS. Off road Obviously there is just no contest here. The KTM is like an MX bike compared to the others. The GS Adventure - quote - "feels like a whale". "As if you take an RT off road". Very hard to keep on track. The bike is let down - again - by its weight and bulk. The KTM's light and quick handling together with the punchy aggressive engine doesn't make it a beginners friend off road. In more experienced (or daring) hands it just flies and is in a league of its own again. The Capo - strangely enough - is the most friendly bike for less experienced off road riders. The lower seating, soft engine pick-up and soft suspension work as an advantage as long as the speeds are low to moderate. Anything more and it gets seriously out of shape. The test goes on about everyday practicality (what?...) and some other things. The KTM loses points on the limited steering lock and the absence of a 12V power outlet. The BMW on a pannier breaking and falling off the bike. The Capo's panniers leaked and some other nitty gritty like this. The testers concluded that a standard GS would have done a better job in this test and more-or-less rated the Adventure as a fashion victim. Leaving the Adventure as a comfortable long distance touring bike. The Capo Rally Raid gets praise for it's low(ish) price for the complete package with all the standard accessoires. But does get a thumb down for being too much of a dresser while it's a nice'n soft touring bike with Rally looks too. The KTM is the star of this test. Sort of the stand-in stuntman if the two movie stars get worried about their make up and fingernails.

Noise Objavljeno December 28, 2003 Opozori Objavljeno December 28, 2003 Je pa sedaj na voljo tudi cestni komplet gum v tej dimenziji... (če že kdo hoče narediti greh in spremeniti zadevo v street-only motocikel)... This might not be of much interest for most but Bridgestone announched the bias Battlax BT45 street tire in 90/90-21 size specifically for all roads. A 150/70-18 was already available so AFAIK this is the first street tire (or any alternative tire for that matter) available as a set for the 950. I've done some digging and reading around the web and so far I've read nothing but praise and enthusiasm about them. They seem to be very sticky and provide excellent and light handling. They are even used on race tracks by guys who ride old GSXRs and bikes like that. Priase here also. Their sporty dual compound obviously doesn't offer the longest thread life. A good sign IMO... A rear seems to last something between 6 and 9K KMs or so. I haven't found anything on the web about the 90/90-21 yet. It was a press message from Bridgestone in a Dutch bike mag with a picture. Noise Objavljeno Februar 5, 2004 Opozori Objavljeno Februar 5, 2004 Iz ADVrider foruma... I picked up the January issue of the German bike mag "Touren-fahrer" yesterday. They are running TWO 950 Adventures through long-term tests! A regular Silver and an Orange S model. The Silver bike has 32.000 KMs on the dail while the S is over 20K too. So this is more 50.000 test kilometers! Problems?? None!... Nothing, zip, zero, nada!!... Both bikes are ridden by 5 or 6 different journo's. Taken off road, long vacation rides, daily commuting etc. Hardcore enduro guys, touring heavyweights and clip-on race geeks switch keys. And the keys of both Adventures' are the first that are grabbed from their test fleet. The only critisism they have is the complicated precedure for checking the oil level. That's all. Beside this, nothing but praise and worship on every aspect of the bike and calling the LC8 engine Austria's Schwarzenegger... At the start of this test they were wondering if the euphoric impression the 950 made on the worldwide press would hold over time and much, much more KMs than a typical test-spin around the block. It does... And it gets even better with time. These are not my words but just a reflection of the article. I though it's a nice possitive addition to the reliabilty discussion on the 950. I'm very curious how the bikes will do with 50K on both dails! Še ena... a friend is just retourned to SUDAN.. 4000 km of hard offroad... the only bike with NO problems? LC8 other africa twin and gs stopped by dirty fuel and other things... his LC8 has 20.000 km but 60% are africa trips....

Vetrna zaščita je po vseh testih - in po lastnih izkušnjah - definitivno ena zelo hvaljenih reči na LC8... Sploh pri višjih hitrostih je nora...
